Kaie wasn’t particularly happy about the situation her host was in. She never forgot or disregarded anything. Kaie hissed and moved out of Lilis so quickly that her body tensed with pain and made her fall.
Don’t do that again. I don’t like it. She growled warning at him. I don’t like what it does to her.

Verse gasped and bent to hold Lilis in his arms. The male vampire ignored her question as he gently touched her lips, "Lilis...." He suddenly scowled and glared up at Kaie, "Careful, you may have hurt her!"

I’ll hurt no more than she’s used to! Becoming my host was the most physically painful thing that ever happened to her!
Lilis curled up in Verse’s arms. Her head felt like it was stuffed full of fuzz. Kaie hissed, bristling with an armament of spines.
Just don’t hurt her. She growled, disappearing.

Verse snorted at her, "Wasn't planning to." He looked down and felt her head, then kissed it.

Lilis stiffened, whimpering. Kaie’s anger had brought back unpleasant memories.

Verse stroked her head, "It's okay... I'm here for you."

That voice. Lilis thought, raising her head a little. That’s not Eamen’s voice. I haven’t been hit yet. She raised her head some more and peeked up at Verse.

He looked worridly down at her, "Lilis?" He gently rubbed her shoulder.

She cringed, hiding her head again.
“Now what’s this?” A soft voice asked. “What have you done to my mother!?”
The young man had dark hair but blue-gray eyes, just like Lilis’. His hand strayed to his sword. He didn’t draw it though. He just stared intently at his mother and Verse.

Verse looked up, then raised a hand, "Easy, lad. I didn;t hurt her. She fainted a little, I'm only trying to help." He stood, picking her up.

He bared his teeth in response, growling. “She’s never fainted in her life.”
“Constantine?” Lilis peeked at him and his face softened immediately.

Verse held her close, "We can fight later, now she may need medical attention." He turned, "Come if you wish." And he headed to the portal to go back to town.

"Mom is a healer." He growled, lengthening his stride to catch up with Verse. "I want to know who you are, how you know my mother, and what your business is with her. I want it now."

Verse ignored his questions as he stepped into the portal. He looked at her face, his mouth opening a crack. He took a deep breath and continued down the road.

Constantine gritted his teeth. Lilis became more aware of herself and her surroundings. Constantine was back! Now she had both of her sons! But wait. Who was carrying her? Lilis looked up at Verse and then to her son.
"Put... me... down..." She said.

He looked down at her, "Not until I know you're okay. You fell and I'm worried about you; Kaie wasn't so nice about it either."

"She was worried and that was not a request." She replied.
Constantine watched her closely. He knew she was losing her patience... if she'd had any to begin with.

He sighed and gently set her on her feet. Once she was steady, he backed away slowly.

Lilis didn't quite have time to steady herself because Constantine hugged her tightly. She smiled faintly and hugged him back. He didn't let go, so she waited and waited and waited.
"Okay, let me go." Constantine didn't move. "Let me go! I'll challenge you to a duel!"
Constantine laughed. "I'll lose." He replied and let her go.
Lilis rolled her eyes. "Verse, this is my oldest son Constantine. Constantine, this is Verse... he's complicated."
Constantine raised a brow at her. She was looking elsewhere, rubbing the toe of her boot through the dirt.

Verse scoffed as he looked away, "Complicated, THAT'S what I've become."

Lilis looked hurted and turned away from him. Constantine's brows shot up.
"I think I'll go see Ambrose." He said hurriedly. "You two look busy. Bye!"
He turned and ran off. He hadn't known that's what his mother had meant when she said complicated. Now he did.
"I didn't mean it like that Verse." She said softly, still not facing him.

He sighed and rubbed his eyes, "I know... but... sorry..." He was just a bit agitated at her ordering him like that.

"Perhaps it's my fault." She murmured and then spoke louder, now facing him. "I apologize Verse. I know I like and perhaps I'm just too blind to see it as love. I'm sorry. I've been too long abused by my family and the people around me. It's made me cold and bitter. I'm sorry. I can't say anything right. I'm sorry. I can't do anything right. I'm sorry." She apologized, her heart constricting.

He looked into her eyes, his blazing crimson orbs staring into her soul, "I'll forgive you on one condition..."

She hesitated, thinking about it. "What condition?" She asked him tentatively.
