Airen was working late, as usual, in an Archive room. The only light in the room came from two candles sitting in from of her. As she bent closer to her work, the five month baby inside her, kicked. She sat straight and looked down at small bulge at her middle. She patted her stomach and bent to her work again, one arm curled around her middle. The candles flickered dimly.
Deciding it was past time for a break; Airen got up and walked back to the small store room. She searched in the darkness for more candles. After a few minutes had passed, Airen was victorious. She came out with two new candles, set them down, and lit them before returning to her work once again.

King Jotie was walking past by down a dark gloomy hallway, until he noticed a faint light coming from the Archive room. Curious, he walked towards the room and then went in.
As he went in, he called out. "Hello? Who's up this late?" He then walked and then spotted Airen. He stood there, blinking, then smirked. "Now, someone bearing a child it seems needs plenty of rest, don't you think?" He then walked up to her and then stood right next to her. "Come on, don't overwork yourself. It will just lead to more stress."

Airen spared him a brief glance. I’m not overworking myself. She replied shortly, returning, once again, to her work. Besides, you’ve never said anything to me before. Why does it matter now?

Jotie sighed. "I am sorry. I just keep forgetting about stuff, blanking out to the world. Sorry." He felt a little bad about it. "Could we talk now? I didn't mean to leave you out of anything. I tend to forget easily."

Very well, she replied, lowering her pen. She looked up at him. I understand you’re busy. I understand you have a family. I understand very well. I have been the one taking care of just about all of your records, arrest writs, letters to sign, and countless other little objects that you, inevitably, have to read. But what have you got to say?

(Sorry. ^_^; Really busy at those times.)
Jotie fell silent, knowing she put her heart into her work. And him... Well... "Man, I feel like I do less work than you! You sound like you work up a sweat while I tend to... You know..." He sighed. "Man, I need to stop slacking off. Maybe stop practicing my magic and reading so much books and spend my time working. Maybe that would prosper the lands better."

Airen's brows came together with an almost audible snap as she frowned at him. I wasn't implying that you're lazy! She told him. And because I think both you and my husband would kill me if I didn't start slowing down, I'm going to start training new scribes. I'm going by the orphanage tomorrow. I'm going to put them down as palace charges. She told him plan, but left him no room to object.

Jotie stared at her for a moment, and then sighed. "Alright. If you say so." He rubbed his forehead and began thinking. "Man, I seem to anger you more than trying to make you happy. Am I that mean to you?" He asked, almost worriedly. He doesn't want to anger her.

Right now, you’re wasting my time. But no, you’re not mean to me. She replied and folded her arms over her chest. The fire runes on the desks and document cubbies began to glow, adding more light to the room. If I’m angry, I’m in the habit of singing people’s clothes, so you’ll know. She turned back to work. I’ve finished and updated your tax records. I’ve finished a report on farm productions and their increases, another report on the activities in the city, the Captain of the Guard asked me to write out writs that he wants you to, those are done as well. You get all of that tomorrow and please read the writs before you sign them. The Captain seems a little jittery to me.

Jotie nodded. "Well, I was going to ask for them today, but I guess tomorrow is fine. Now, if I'm wasting your time, I'm sorry. Bluu misses you though, just to let you know. He loves to watch you work. Maybe you should work outside with him there. Though, he can't come in no more, because... Well, let's just say he had a growth splurt yesterday. He's already unable to fit through the door from the front."
He then turned around, then paused a moment, before turning back. "Can you note this down? I need renevations(SP) on this castle. It's already starting to fall apart. Matter of fact, I need this castle to be rebuilt, in order for dragons to come in. At least then, the dragoness can come in and visit me sometimes. I learned from my brother Zuki that the dragoness of the far away lands are blood related to me and my family."

For a ruler, you're very tolerant... nice. Most rulers would have considered it rude that I told them they were wasting my time. Thank you. She said with a slight smile. And I don't think you want to be ruining your eyesight, like me. I'll have a nice stack of paperwork for you in the morning, waiting for you.
When he asked her about renovations, she paused. Very well, I will make a note of it and I will try to visit Bluu sometime. I work outside quite a bit when I'm drawing. I need a new drawing subject anyhow.

Jotie smiled and nodded. "Maybe you could try drawing my sister in her three forms. She would be nice, along with her soon-to-be husband of hers, Intain. She lives nearby here. I hope you don't mind. Well, just giving you ideas." He then waved. "Ta ta!~ I'm heading off to bed. Wake me up if you need anything." He told her as he turned and went to the halls to head up to his chambers.

Torak came in a few minutes later, and leaned against the doorway, sighing.
"Airen, you should be getting rest."
He stated, his eyes focused on her.
"Paperwork can wait."

Airen looked up innocently at him. I'm not working. She said and hid her pen. I was, eh, reading, for tomorrow's work. Ehhh, I lost track of time. Ehhh, King Jotie just came by and said something similar. Are you two teaming up on me?

Torak sighed.
"Airen, really, you should be resting, not up and about. And, I haven't even seen Jotie today."
He shook his head.
"Airen, you're going to kill yourself working if you keep this up."

I’m not dead yet and I’ve been working this hard since I was ten. But point taken. She said so that she wouldn’t make him angry. Just let me put everything up and I’ll be right with you.
Airen stood carefully and began to put up her documents. She made a quick note and set that on the bottom of her stack of her fresh paper. She killed the fire in the candles and looked around. Everything looked in order. Airen walked over to Torak and looked up at him, she gave him her puppy-innocent look.

Torak smiled, and wrapped one of his arms around her.
"Come on. Let's go..."
He pecked her cheek with his lips, closing his eyes a moment.

Since you insist, Airen replied gustily and kissed him in return.
She stepped out and closed the door behind her. The runes on the doorframe began to glow as she touched them. She turned and hugged Torak, which allowed the baby the opportunity to kick him through her stomach.

Torak felt the kick, and he smiled, holding Airen back. He watched the runes a moment, then grinned at his wife.

I told the maids they'd catch on fire if they touch the door. It works so they stay away. She explained and grinned crookedly at him. And the baby really likes to kick. I'm up to about sixty-seven kicks today, total. My ribs hurt.

"Four more months, don't worry."
Torak ran a hand through her hair.
"Then, you don't need to worry about being sore..."

Ha! I don’t believe that. She said and raised a brow at him. Just because my ribs won’t be hurting doesn’t mean that something else may start to hurt, which I believe is likely to happen, especially when the baby starts to teeth.

"I'll help any way I can."
Torak replied, stroking her cheek.
"I promise."

Airen rubbed her hands together and grinned evilly. Good… I won’t forget that. She said and leaned against him.
