A shadow drifted through the meadow, not paying attention to the few flowers open in the silver night. The vampire tilted his head back, turning his own pale face up to the silver and pale face of the moon. His blue eyes seem luminescent in the night. Minutes passed by, but the vampire stood as still as a statue. At last, he moved, drifting beyond the meadow to the shadows of the trees. He stayed there, just on the edge of darkness and silver light.

Maemi walked along her pale face shining in the silvery moonlight. She wasn't paying attention as she walked along blending in with the darkness. She had just finished slurping her dinner from an unexpecting halfling, and her eyes glowed red in the night air.

The vampire watched this new person walk openly in the night. He was curious about her, but he wasn't about to approach her. Slayers came in many guises and he didn't want to tangle with one, even though he was likely far more powerful. The vampire moved deeper into the shadows. The luminescent blue eyes tracking her movements.

She stopped and looked at the moon, her red eyes glowing. Her canines poked out of her lips, and she looked around to see if anyone was around. She didn't see anyone, and relaxed a bit. She had always loved the moon, it held such a celestial glow that hypnotized her into a dream like state.

Curious of the girl, the vampire cautiously came out to get a better look at her. He moved quickly and quietly across the meadow to stand only a few feet before her. He just stood and watched her looking up at the moon. The other vampire shoved his hands into his pockets and sighed softly through his nose.

"May I help you?" she asked looking to the sighing vampire who broke her out of her dreamy state and back to the harsh reality of emptiness and darkness. She was fearful of this darkness that had filled her with the emptiness that made her know she was not alive. She grew colder, and her face paler, she felt horrible with each life sustaining death she took for her meals.

"Nope. I was just curious." The vampire replied softly. "You were looking at the moon. Do you like the night?"

"Not particularly, just the moon." she said smiling a bit, her canines stained red. "What about you, do you fancy the night?" she asked nicely as possible.

"I fancied a beautiful woman once." The vampire replied. "I've fancied nothing else since. Was the feeding good tonight?"

Her face fell when thinking about the small halfling that had sustained her thirst. "It was fine." she said nodding. "I'm Maemi, by the way." she said looking back to the moon.

Gabriel nodded and noticed that he had upset her. "I'm Gabriel Ash. I seem to have upset you, so I'll apologize for that." He told her and sweeped into a bow. "My apologies Maemi."

"Oh it's not you, I just hate to feed, I hate to kill." she said nodding with a curtsy to show she was not offended nor angry. her blonde hair fell over her shoulder looking even brighter against her black dress. " Nice to meet you Gabriel." she added as she extended her hand to him.

Gabriel looked at her hand for a moment before shaking it. "I rarely hunt. There is a place near my manor where I usually get my meals. Celeste sometimes brings it to me, if she been out." He told her and shoved his hand back into his pocket. "So, hunting is the reason why you're out tonight then?"

"Yeah, I don't get out much. I don't fancy the urges I get to kill things or make someone have "the disease". " she said not knowing if he was friend or foe yet. She rarely talked to anyone anymore, the lonliness had contributed to the emptiness. Ten years had gone by since she had the curse, and tonight was the aniversary(sp?).

"Vampirism is not a disease, just as Lycanthropy isn't a disease. People think that, but it's just a condition the body takes on after an alien presence has entered the body." He shrugged then. "But other people like to think that it is genetic and sometimes it is."

Maemi being her ever impatient self said, "Well I consider it a disease because it was passed to me. I did not ask for it nor did I want it." she said through gritted teeth. Maemi was a very impatient person, who due to all the emptiness and lonliness had become very bitter.

Gabriel watched her impassively. "No need to get upset. I didn't mean anything by it." He said by way of apology. "Would you mind telling me a little about yourself? That way may not further offend you in the future."

"Me?" she asked laughing haughtily, "I'm just Maemi, the murderer of my own parents, well everyone thinks anyway. I have been chased away from many a town, and my own family turned their backs on me. I am alone and bitter." she said ending her monolgue her eyes looking hungary for attention, for love, for anything that she could feel. She was going hollow on the inside, and she couldn't fins anything to fill the emptiness inside her.

"Wait a few hundred years and then you'll understand what lonely is. I still feel alone, no matter how many people I have around me." Gabriel replied softly to her. He saw the look in her eyes and motioned her over to him. "Come here, just for a moment."

She approached cautiously, not knowing what to expect. "That's the only thing I fear, the hundreds of years where I will be alone, I think maybe if I just plunge a dagger through my heart it will be over." she said sadly, the coldness inhabiting her entire being, even her soul.

Gabriel closed the distance between them and gave Maemi a hug. He just held her to him for a moment before letting her go and stepping back.
"I understand. I've been just as lonely and bitter. I still am sometimes." Gabriel shrugged then. "Try to find some friends or get a few pets. It helps, a little, and it's sometimes hard to replace the pets when they die."

Maemi hugged him back, but still felt nothing. "I'll try to, but no one wants to be friends with a murderer." she said nodding solemnly. She had thought about pets, but she always got the urge to feed on them, so she had avoided them as of yet.

"Would you like to meet some of my friends? We're all much older than you are, but I think they would be nice enough to you. They'd certainly show more emotion than I will." Gabriel told her softly with a serious offer.
