Sol hunkered down in the darkness, brooding darkly. Somnus woke up and stumbled over to Ryhe. He yawned as he sat beside his brother.
"What've you done to Sol? He went from being mostly fine to pissed off in a heartbeat." He said with another yawn. "At least he's not feeling the need to be even slightly nasty."

"I don't know. I was joking by 'talking' to a god, who wasn't there and he exploded." He scoffed, " Note to self, lay off the godding." He sighed and sat down, rubbing his eyes.

"Oh-oh." Somnus said and transmuted a piece of wood in his hands to a knife. "I wouldn't tease like that. See, Sol's died and revived about five times now. He's met the same gods everytime. They treat him like he's insignificant and he hates that. You know I did that to him once and he threatened to slit my throat and heal it so that I wouldn't be able to talk again." He shook his head and looked up, through the trees, at the starry sky. "It's like pretending one is really there brings up one in his mind. He told me they did something, he couldn't say what though. And gods are irksome... things."

"I canna agree with you." He couldn't. He never met these gods and, knowing he was screwy, Kermer was a decent god. What would such 'divine' beings do to a poor kid like Sol? A good kid... what horrible things to make him hate them so much?

Somnus shrugged. "I've never been dead, so I wouldn't know." He then looked guiltily at his hands. "Of course, it's always been my fault that he's died. He won't tell me about it. I don't know if he's upset with me for the incidents or if he just doesn't want to talk about it."

"Dieing..." Ryhe fell back into his memories. The first time he died, when the hemo inside broke free during the day and killed his inner humanity. He lived as the beast till he was freed by a monk. The second time, he died of a puncture wound... the size of a hand in his stomach. He was revived by his son, Fivin. The third time, he was pumped full of silver nitrate and died of poisoning in his bloodstream. Kermer brought him back that time. The last time was when King Jotie drowned him. He shuddered.

"Sometimes," Somnus whispered, "thinking of those incidents send him flying into a fury. I have no idea why."
Somnus tucked his knees up under his chin and wrapped his arms around them. He looked so much younger then, like a child.
"Sol, where'd you go?" He asked the darkness with a quivering voice.

Ryhe jumped a bit and looked at Somus. He stared into the fire, "I'll give him an hour before I go look for him." He put on another log. The old man sighed and laid back, staring at the sky.

"I can't find him Ry. He won't let me." Somnus whimpered and wrapped leathery-black wings about him.
Sol was still behind his trees. He hadn't moved and was still just brooding. He wanted to be as alone as he could get without going anywhere.

"Doesn't mean I canna. I know he's yer twin, but I'm a master tracker. Besides, a giant golden dragon isn't hard to miss in a dark forest." Ryhe looked at him, worry gleaming in his eye.

~ It doesn't work that way. If Sol doesn't want to be found, he won't let you find him. Remember when we fought. I brought us into darkness and when Sol came he brought the light. He could easily hide there from us. ~

Ryhe sighed, "I suppose that's good. If we can't find him... no one else can." He took in a deep breath and poked the fire. He looked to his new brother, "How are you feeling?"

~ I feel alone. Sol's never separated himself from before. ~ Somnus replied slowly. ~ I wasn't ever conscious when Sol died. I would imagine that it would feel the same. ~

Ryhe got up and walked over to him, "Aw, there, there lad. There's no need to be sad, he just needs to be alone for a bit. My own twin did that a lot and I felt the same. But he always came back, as will Sol. I'm sorry, it's my fault he got so angry."

~ Yes, but Sol's never cut himself off from me. ~ He replied and furled his wings. He looked at Ryhe, his eyes mostly blank and empty.

Ryhe stared back into his eyes, his own eyes deep in thought and sorrow. He set a hand on his shoulder, "You shouldn't worry. He's your brother and a good man. He made a promise, you aren't alone. He's still with you and he still cares lad. If after all you two have been through, he's still here, an idiot's words and bad memories won't make him leave. He's above that."

"Do you still have your twin?" Somnus asked him softly and stared at the fire. "What was he like?"

Ryhe sighed and sat by him, " He was hung as few years ago. Tyler was a pirate and yet the kindest man I've ever know. We went through everything together. His wedding, my twelve. When his kids were born, when I was in trouble for the hundreds of illegitimate kids I made. Everything... when mama died... da beating us. He was my best friend... and...and I watched him hang. I couldn't do anything and now..." Ryhe took a shuddered breath.

"Sol is that way too, except he doesn't care if he has to fight his way through Hell to get to me. I know he'd do it too. It's likely he'll start doing the same for you as well." Somnus looked up at Ryhe, a slight smile on lips. "I think I've done worse than you and Sol far worse than the both of us. Neither of us, however, have had any kids."

Ryhe didn't seem to hear. He was staring at the fire, his eyes forming his brother hanging in the flames. Half of him died that day, he remembered baning against the cage the soldiers put him in and trying to get to Tyler. After his speech, he dropped and they heard Tyler's wife screaming from the crowd. It was a dark day.

Somnus shifted into a black panther and slunk off into the darkness. He stumbled upon Sol and curled up at his side. His twin looked at him, but didn't do anything. Sol poked his golden head around the trees to look at Ryhe. He just watched him through lidded eyes while his twin fell asleep at his side.

Ryhe closed his eyes and stood, walking away from the fire. He needed time to think. He needed time to calm down. Most of all, he needed a drink to forget Tyler. The large elf tried to find the bar, wanting to drown these sorrows.

Sol nipped at his brother's side until he woke. Once Somnus was awake, and slightly aggitated, they followed after Ryhe.
~ Want a lift? We have a shortcut. ~ Sol offered him.

Ryhe shook his head slowly. He was numb for the moment, not really wanting to talk for now. He glanced at the two, then to his feet as he trudged on down the path. His eyes were now blank of emotion, as was his face.

Sol traded a look with Somnus and walked quietly behind him. ~ Why did you have to ask him such a... nevermind. You're paying for it. ~
~ I don't have any money Sol. You're the one who's got anything. ~
~ Huh! You can find a job, if you'll behave. ~
~ Stop picking on me! ~
~ It's not like you don't deserve more! ~
Their silent bickering continued for some time.
