Torak sighed, watching the horizon fade with the setting sun. This was probably the only place he could go; ontop a tower roof, either sitting with one leg bent up and one over the edge, or on his feet while avoiding woman. Today, he let his leg dangle, his chin resting on his kneecap. He sighed, his gun in his shirt, having fixed the shock shooting mechanism. But that wasn't why he watched the setting sun, sighing. He was missing somebody. He shrugged.
They come, and they go. Let that one go.
It was like pulling the petals off a flower and letting them blow into the wind. You had to let them go eventually.

Airen needed a different view of the palace grounds. She'd done at least ten of the north side and six of the west side. This angle, she hoped, would be more challenging.
Ekirth flew ahead of her as scaled the wall. He zipped up to the top and hovered, seeing Torak sitting there. He landed and approached him slowly from behind. The little fire dragon was careful not to accidentally catch his clothes on fire. When he recognized Torak, Ekirth walked around to sit in his view. Airen was still climbing up.

Torak looked down to Ekirth, and swung his other leg over the edge.
"Hey, shouldn't you be with Airen?"
He asked, gently rubbing the dragon's small scales, thinking to himself.
"Now, you don't want to worry her, do you?"
He put his hand by Ekirth's feet, if he wanted to climb onto his arm.

Ekirth shrugged and climbed onto Torak's arm. Airen came up over the edge and huffed at her dragon.
Ah-ha! Fly ahead of me and then abandon me for him! I see! She teased Ekirth, who then decided to curl up beside Torak and pretend to sleep. That doesn't work, you little con artist. I made you out of fire. You don't have to sleep!
Ekirth raised his head and just watched her pull herself up. Airen snorted and huffed again as she crawled onto the roof. She looked at Torak, raised an eyebrow, and then checked her bag.
Hello again. It's been some time... or maybe I've just been working too hard. She said with a small smile and pulled out her drawing pad.

"You know, it's never a long time from seeing anybody. You just loose track of time, is all."
Torak looked at Airen, then back to Ekirth.
"Now, go on, go back to her. She's the one that created you, anyway."
He laid his hand back down by Airen, so Ekirth could hop off.
"So, what are you going to draw?"
He asked, curious.

I've a mind to layout the whole palace. Airen said, already starting on the far palace wall. This is what I do in my free time. Work some more, but on drawings.
Airen looked up at Torak and then focused on Ekirth, who had decided to perch on her knees. She crossed her eyes and stuck her tongue out at him. The little dragon beat her face with his wings. Airen smiled and shook the residual fire from her hair.
Would you like to see some of my other work? I do a lot and I don’t have to have my subject in front of me all of the time. Airen gave Torak a measuring look. I could do a portrait of you, right now, if you like. It’s no trouble and you’re something different to look at.

Torak stared then looked away.
"Nah, I'm fine, you don't need to do a portrait of me. Though, I would like to see some of your work."
He looked back at Airen, smiling. He thought a moment, wondering what he could do so he wouldn't have to sit around or catch drunks. He needed something productive. His robotics job was rare; having done Vincent only a month or two ago. No one seemed to want to let the future come. And he needed the money.

Well, okay. I don't charge anything for my work... drawing-wise. Airen said and pulled out a thicker pad, stuffed with stray pieces of paper. She handed it over to Torak. Most of it is silly stuff, I think. A bird I found in the forest or on a tree or a pretty flower. But I do have some other stuff. Dragons and fire are my favorite drawing subjects, but I do many things.

Torak nodded, flipping to the first page. He stared, almost as if waiting for the picture to come to life. He was stunned.
This art...is beautiful...
He thought to himself, after about ten minutes going to the next. He was memorizing the pictures, every single detail Airen had put into them.

If there are some that you like, you can have them. I don't use them for anything. Airen shrugged and went back to her work. I normally end up giving them away anyhow.

"Hey, did you do any self-portraits of yourself?"
Torak wondered, going to the next picture, studying the flower details. He felt like sneezing, because the pollen looked so real. Luckily, he didn't, otherwise, he probably would have fallen.

Um... Airen looked up. There maybe some from when I was younger and living with the cult members who raised me. Those would be in their somewhere. I think there may be one that I did a year or two ago. But help yourself to any of the pictures that you like.

Torak nodded again. He kept flipping the pages, looking at each one, memorizing them all. He then saw a picture of her. She looked almost the same, except, she was just a bit younger. He smiled, and flipped to the next page, studying, as if there was going to be a quiz after it.

Airen tilted her head at Torak and then looked at her sketch. She decided to finish up the wall and then layout the rest of the castle. She bent over her work, ignoring the cramp from her already exhausted muscles.
So you like them? She asked him as she began on a distant teir.

Torak nodded.
"They're wonderfully drawn! This is an amazing talent, you know that?"
He kept looking over the pictures, then flipped to one of Ekirth. He chuckled at the pose.

Yes, it is. It's one of the few things that consoles me. She told him and frowned at a section of the garden. I don't use it for more than pleasure... unless it's a special occasion, like weddings.

Torak nodded, still flipping through. He reached the end, closed his eyes, and pieced all the drawings together. He smiled, then opened his eyes again.

Airen looked up in time to see his smile. What? I'm not that good... surely. She said, denying her skill and went back to her drawing on the palace. I don't think I'm that good, at least. She thought to herself and began doing the brick sections.

"Well, you're good. I originally thought that they would come to life. You really are good, perfect, if I say so. I bet with those pictures, I could find the exact object you drew off of. Down to the last little bit of detail, too."
Torak chuckled, still looking at the horizon.

I doubt that you would be find many of the original subjects themselves. She told him and sighed sadly. Some were destroyed, the others I assume died naturally... but you may find a few of the originals intact. I don't know. Do you want any of them?

Torak shook his head.
"Nah. I have them in my head. It doesn't take me too long to memorize a thing, really. If I can memorize every single detail about the deadly sins and everything eolse, then, I can memorize some really good drawings..."

Airen actually blushed and focused on her work to try and hide it. They're not that good. The maps are better and they're a challenge too. I'm making some in my room.

Torak nodded.
"Maps are hard. You don't know exactly what something looks like. The earth, for example. No one can tell what something is, unless they could go far past the sky."

I think that would be an interesting project. And not all maps are difficult. The ones for the sewer system, for example, are not very hard. They are just a lot of corners, grates, pipes, and dirty water. I'm working on a city map and a kingdom map currently. Are you working on anything?

Torak thought a moment, then shook his head.
"I have no real hobby. If you count robotics, that's one. But, when someone gets hurt; say, an arm or leg cut off, or an eye damaged, they'd rather go see someone that doesn't know what they're doing. They rather stay with the injury, then get a new arm, or body. It's rare someone does. They're scared it'll hurt; when it won't..."
