"It's not that I hate it... I love the advantages... I just hate being treated differently..." He rested his arms on the table.

Lilis looked over at him. “Differently? How are you treated differently?” She asked him curiously.

Verse sighed, "My clan is an un-dead vampire breed. Neither living nor dead. We're treated like untouchables... no body wants to socialize with the dead. We're also exposed to the sun forcefully and executed. It's horrible..."

“Stupid.” She muttered and scowled. “But I don’t think your clan is all that special. I have contacts that tell me about a specific type of Vampire that can’t go in the sun. Some of them are actually like that too.” She shook her head. “I don’t know people would be idiotic enough to just destroy you like that. It’s frustrating.”

"It was back home... this place isn't as bad." He shrugged, then smiled weakly.

She snorted. “Yeah, there’re places much worse and others much better too. I know worse… I’ve only seen better a few times.” She wrinkled her nose.

Verse nodded, then smiled to her. Maybe we can make a better place.... together. He thought, then looked away, grinning more.

The server finally brought them a couple of flasks of blood. He stood by while she checked them and then accepted her generous tip. Lilis pushed to better one over to Verse. She did a double-take of his face.
“Penny for your thoughts.” She said, taking a drink.

Verse thanked her and smiled weaker, "A penny isn't worth it." He took a sip of the drink, smiling a little more.

Lilis made a bland face, but ruined it by raising a brow at him. “It’s just an expression.” She muttered. “But if you’re serious about the penny thing, how much are your thoughts worth then?”

He laughed, "I was kidding. Medaphorically." He took another swig.

“Ah,” she replied and traced one of the patterns on the table. She couldn’t think of something to say. She’d already brought up their old topic of weapons, but it lay in a grave now. If he wanted to talk about something, he’d have to start the conversation.

He looked to her, " Do you read?"

“You do remember all of those papers in my office don’t you? But otherwise, no. I’d read books, like I used to, but since I’m pretty much in charge of the army, the guards, the elites, and… well, that’s a secret…” She shook her head. “I don’t get much of a chance to read books anymore though.”

He frowned a little, "That's aweful..." He himself loved to read, he thought it terrible that people were illiterate.

“Yes it is. I need to find more excuses to leave and relax more… But then papers back up… I’m going to hire a few scribes to do some of the other reports. I’ll take care of the more important ones myself. That should cut back a great deal of time for me. I’d like to read books again.”

He chanced it, "What if ypou got married... and, maybe, had a few kids..."

“Huh! I’d like to see that happen.” She said and propped her head on her fist. “I’d still be busy though. I love what I do too much to just quit it, even for a family.” She smiled faintly. “But I really love children though. The ones I had from my previous, pre-arranged marriage are all grown and all but two are dead. Do you like children Verse?”

He smiled and nodded, "Love them... I used to play with my niece and nephew before my brother threw me out... I'm sorry about your kids."

“Oh I’m okay. I still have Constantine and Ambrose and that makes me happy. But they left a few months ago with some of my friends to travel. They promised to come back and they write me every week.” She replied. “I like to visit the orphans when I do go on a break. Some of them I train, but they mostly want to play with me. If you don’t mind me asking, why don’t you have a family?”

Lilis looked Verse up and down quickly. “You look fine to me. Maybe they were born with mental problems. And you can cure that cute blush. It only adds color, heat, and blood to your face.” She teased lightly with a smile.

She rolled her eyes. “I meant what I said. You look fine to me.” She repeated and looked at him. “I’ve never made anyone blush before… pale with fear, yes, but blush… Hm… “
Lilis chuckled and patted his shoulder. “I know what you meant too. You can stop blushing now.” She patted his shoulder once more and put her head in her arm as she laughed.

His face produced more blood to his cheeks , for her understanding and her touch. He cleared his throat and tried to hide it with his hands, resting his elbows on the table and letting is fingers come up and cover his cheeks. Though, the red stripe in the middle still glowed.
